Wagaya

Situated at the old Narita Teppanyaki – 73 Harbour St, Haymarket, Wagaya is the new Izakaya restaurant with an on-screen ordering system (and you know me, being a digital media buff – LOVE digital screen networks on ANYTHING) that takes the pain out of ordering from a non-English speaking high school girl on an International student visa. It’s also a great place to take the kids, because it keeps them busy! My tip – don’t order everything at once (because you’re always tempted to press buttons) because the food will come all at once… and little did we know how extremely good looking the male waiter was! He looked like a Japanese/Korean pop star who just didn’t belong there as a food runner (perhaps a failing pop star struggling to pay his rent). You would want him to come back, over and over again.

Agedashi Mochi – which I loved!

So this is the Salom Roulette – which is a great gimmick: There are 6 pieces of sushi, and only one of them is ‘booby-trapped” with a VERY LARGE amount of wasabi. Nervous laughs all around.

And of course, the fiery piece ends up in my mouth. Tear gas.

Dessert plates: The Mochi ice cream (bottom left) was to die for!

They have private rooms available too!

The Yuzu Shoju recommendation from Yas was delicious!

it looks like a great place but this is exactly what the world DOESN’T need. more dependence on technology. i think i’m the only teacher who’s reverting back to paper & pen. i hope everyone who doesn’t realizes in the future how right i am.

    been there..

    one word..crap..

    crap food and service..

yes the computer was abit fun at first. but after discovering i need to press 50buttons at least for a meal, just bugged me.. esp when i need to press 4 buttons for a glass of water, and another 4 for the bill..

i asked the waitress, can i have my bill.. she says use the comp..

i said can i have a glass of water. she said use comp..

went in and outta there within 25mins.. ordered a few dishes.. at one bite.. horrible.. left and ate elsewhere..

    NOT RECOMMENDED this one!

I’ve vistied also visited Wagaya. I thought the quality was not fantastic, however there were enough dishes on the menu to make me return.

I went in the opening week, where they had 50% off you bill. In essence this meant eating 200% for the same price! I really enjoyed the soft shell crab hand roll and of course the Lobster Sashimi was great (though hardly worth the full price), it was quite small.

I’m a heterosexual male and I know the waiter you are talking about. He certainly will keep the ladies coming back. Very tall, dark and handsome.

Also noticed how big his hands were…hmmm (totally heterosexual ok)

@ant100 - using the comp was so much faster than calling the waitress.

@Busta_snoops - I would gladly eat mediocre food for a hot waiter. We need more of those around… plenty of hot waitresses in hospitality but never the cute guys!
