Having an Asian father who loves a gamble, and let’s not kid ourselves – they ALL love to gamble, we frequently choose casino restaurants as a meeting place for dinner. I first saw the Lobster Burger with foie gras butter ($65) on the Sean’s Kitchen menu 4-5 weeks ago, but held back from ordering it. Eventually, curiousity got the better of me and when I saw it again on the dinner menu and I just had to. The first thing I noticed was that it had changed from the $65 price tag to market price. When we asked for the price, the waitress informed us that it was a whooping $90! The price of these Tasmanian lobster has gone up, apprently. Perhaps she should’ve told me they’re becoming an endangered species, for the 25% markup.
So I ordered it anyway, just to see what the fuss was all about.
There were three lobster tails cooked in butter, served on a floured, slightly toasted bun with watercress salad and foie gras butter.
It wasn’t bad, but it didn’t have any wow-factor. The bun was slightly dry, and while the lobster tails were cooked to perfection with delicate, subtle flavours, I would’ve enjoyed them much more sans bread. It sounded a lot more appetizing on paper, than in my hand.
One thing I do want to rave about, was their Prosciutto endive salad with a mixture of fresh and marinated figs, served with aged reggiano cheese. This was just superb.

Well, here’s to spending our stimulus packages from the government. It’s all about helping the economy, right?

I suppose given the KRudd money is essentially “free money” we’re more likely to spend it on luxurious items we normally wouldn’t buy, but I’m not sure I wouldn’t paid $90 for a lobster burger. Imagine the amount of lobster and satisfaction you’d get out of $90 worth of lobster at a chinese restaurant! I guess that’s the Asian side of me speaking though..
Thankfully, I was billed $55 with discount! But yeah, I could totally spend that amount on so many other lobster dishes. Especially lobster sashimi!
