Our office is full of celebrations (and sweet tooths!) Whether it is a birthday, an anniversary, a welcome, a farewell, or an occasion we fabricate, there is only one universal reason why we all love to celebrate: CAKE.

Recently I purchased from Pastry Perfection: It is an online site who not only offers next day delivery to Sydney CBD, but the delivery fee is also free of charge!

Chocolate bete noir cake

This Bete noir cake is a “Decadent gluten free chocolate cake filled with a rich chocolate ganach and garnished with chocolate straws” and it was simply AMAZING. We normally buy all our cakes from the Lindt Cafes and although this Bete noir cake may not be as pretty and perfect as Lindt, all 9 of us have collectively voted this one better than Lindt.

You should try it two days old, warmed up with a microwave too. We’re not ashamed to admit we love it.

Ease of online shopping? Check. Free delivery? Check. Next day delivery? Check. Gluten free? CHECK!

A new smoother version of the product has been launched, a combination of Vegemite, cream cheese and a secret ingredient. Kraft is calling on consumers to name the new product which will first appear on shelves bearing the label “Name Me”.

“The new Vegemite experience is based on learnings we gathered from more than 300,000 Australians who engaged in our How Do You Like Your Vegemite census. They told us that they wanted a Vegemite that doesn’t require combining it with butter, and one that’s easier to spread,” continued Talbot.

“The new Vegemite experience has been developed with this in mind it offers a completely different eating experience, and has been created for snacking occasions anytime during the day. It is great with celery, carrot sticks or crackers and crisp breads.

“With such a well-loved, iconic brand we wouldn’t create something using the Vegemite name unless we were absolutely sure that Australians would love it and original Vegemite will always remain a family favourite for breakfast,” said Talbot.

The new Vegemite experience will be made in Australia, by Australians.

Australians will be able to have their first taste of the new Vegemite experience from Sunday July 5, with one million samples being distributed across the country from this date.

Gizmodo says “Their new Izona Cooksurface looks more like a ceramic electric hob than a gas one, and dumps the four-burner pattern that nearly every other range uses. Though this gives you fewer cooking stations, it at least means you won’t set your sleeves on fire reaching for the back ones anymore. Most cleverly, it’s got retracting pot supports, burners and controls, so when it’s off its glass surface is easy to clean —handy for splash-it-all-around cooks like me. Add in extra-precise temperature control and LED displays, and you really do have a 21st Century gas cooking range…”

I wish I had a large kitchen… and enough money to remodel!

Remember being told that chocolate gives you acne? Everyone knows that’s just a myth! In fact, we now know that the antioxidants in dark chocolate have many health benefits. Frutels gives you the opportunity to indulge in a delicious dark chocolate nutraceutical that will help you achieve clear skin from the inside out.* So enjoy!

How Frutels Chocolates Work.

We took the same nutritional formula used in our popular acne care gummies and blended it with a premium, sugar-free dark chocolate. It’s a difference you can taste!

Frutels chocolates are a nutritional supplement to give you clear skin from the inside out. The patent-pending Frutels formula supports your body against the causes of acne, which we know are hormonal imbalances, stress and a diet high in simple sugars. Simply eat 2-4 Frutels chocolates a day, depending on your skin.*

Has anyone in the states tried this? I’d love to know your thoughts.

Situated at next to the lobby of the Ikon apartment building on Macleay St (the site of many failed restaurants, including twenty eleven) in Potts Point, comes a breath of fresh air to the neighbourhood. It’s definitely the fail-proof option for such a doomed space. Fratelli Fresh opens the second providore for all the precious people like ourselves who would prefer something a little closer to home than Dank St Waterloo. The restaurant, also named Cafe Sopra opened its doors yesterday during a heavy rainstorm, which was in fact, a blessing in disguise – they are adhereing to their no bookings policy. I got a table for two by the banquette (oh how I love the way they use that word) as soon as I closed my umbrella.

Where’s Wally? Barry MacDonald on the very right. Go Bazza.

We started off with our favorite aperitivo – Campari. I honestly cannot find another place in Sydney who serves $8.50 Negroni’s! I fell in love right away.

The tuna carparccio with shaved fennel and tapenade ($22) was absolutely divine. This was made with just one whole slice of fresh, raw tuna. The fennel were thin, delicate ribbons dressed with just the right amount of citrus and baby chives, and the tapenade gave the flavours an interesting italian character.

Cod Pate, poached egg, brioche, mussel dressing (S18) was very special as I haven’t tasted anything similar to this before. The cod pate had the same consistency of hummous, and against the sweet brioche it was an absolutely divine combination of sweet and savoury. The mussels added the extra layer of texture with thinly sliced spanish onion.

Farfalle with smoked chicken, leek and grain mustard ($18) was very creamy and heavy. It tasted sensational for the first few mouthfuls – the grain mustard really making the cream sauce. After a quarter of the way through, it became too rich for my palate.

Pork Belly with water spinach - oh need I say more. You should try the crackling on this (I know, bad cholesterol – I only had two bites of Chris’ plate, I promise!) – just heavenly. A must try!

Funnily enough, my favorite dish of the night was the side of rocket and parmesean ($6). Not a lot of restaurants toss the shaved parmesean right through, and the balsamic vinegar used was top quality from Modena. Every mouthful had the right amout of flavour – the sharpness of the parmesean, the acid sweetness of the balsamic, and such fresh baby rocket, straight from the markets. Yum.

The prices for each dish (and drinks!) were so reasonable – a very filling two course meal with alcohol for two people ended up less than $110. I will definitely make a repeat visit on another stormy night.

This is where they get you, after each meal, I cannot resist the temptations at the store… and I walked out with $37 worth of groceries. Yes, I resisted the $47 packets of Iberian Ham.

I’ve recently been recommended by my doctor to cut dairy out of my diet. I’ve always been lactose intolerant but I just loved cream, butter and cheese too much… who doesn’t? She has also asked me to cut yeast out of my diet as well which cuts out a lot of breakfast options in the office.

After my gluttonous behaviour during my recent trip away I decided to listen to my doctor and put my health back in check before I abuse it all over again. I’ve been trying a few different soy milk products (ergh, how I hate soy milk!) to have with my cereal in the morning and I have finally decided that Vitasoy makes the best one, with the least taste, and the best consistency/creaminess. I couldn’t think of another quick and easy breakfast option during office hours, as toast is out of the question.

Furthermore, I would never bring myself to have a soy coffee (Blergghhhh!). It’s almost a blasphemy as it totally ruins how a latte should taste. I decided to quit coffee altogether and drink peppermint tea in the mornings instead. I’d rather have no coffee than a bad coffee.

I have also sampled Soylife’s apricot and mango soy yogurt to accompany my museli. I’ve come to the conclusion that there’s just no replacement for real yogurt. It’s really quite awful…

However there is a bright side to everything - Soy milk has a fridge-life of 4 weeks! I can’t say I’ve ever finished a carton of milk by myself before, so that is always a plus.

Has anyone else tried other diary replacement products that were tasty and worth mentioning?
