Singapore Sling
Special thanks to Alex for some excellent food-guiding! I realized that a trip to Singapore is actually cheaper than a trip to Melbourne / Hunter Valley for a long weekend… so aboard the new A380 – off I went for a 48 hour binge.
A tip: Row 80 on the upper deck on the new A380 [...]

Dumplings
Since I’ve taken a 10 week break from working at a restaurant, I can finally stay home at nights or weekends to teach myself a few more authentic Chinese dishes. Mom being a very strict Buddhist vegetarian I’ve always wanted to perfect a dish that she can enjoy.
I’m looking for a good, tried and tested 花素餃 (vegetarian dumping) [...]
Chinese Water Spinach
I just made the best Kangkong recipe out of random stuff around my house!

Vegetable oil
2 tbsp dried shrimp (soaked, then finely minced with a knife)

dash of xiaoxing wine
Heat wok with vegetable oil, add dried shrimp, and 30 [...]
Woo Salmon!

Adapted from my darling friend Brian Woo’s salmon recipe – it’s quick and easy:
Scale, debone and Skin [...]
Warm Salad
As the weather turns cooler during Autumn, I find normal salads a little too frigid (and somewhat unsatisfying) for my liking. After a long Saturday morning sleep-in, it was a late busy Friday night at the restaurant afterall, I woke up restricted to work with what I had in the fridge – the results were [...]

Hospitality Nightmares
Sometimes, it’s just bad luck, on a bad day!
Tomato Ice Cream
Time and time again, I talk about how much I love Yoshii’s ability to assemble the perfect food formula by using local fresh ingredients.
Tomato ice cream with honey, shaved almond, deep fried mint leaf and dehydrated tomato chip
So it looks strange, but it’s perfectly balanced. I remember the last time I ate something similar was [...]
Soy Milk
I’ve recently been recommended by my doctor to cut dairy out of my diet. I’ve always been lactose intolerant but I just loved cream, butter and cheese too much… who doesn’t? She has also asked me to cut yeast out of my diet as well which cuts out a lot of breakfast options in [...]
